YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR DIAGNOSIS

Stability Is Within Reach.

Bipolar disorder is one of the most complex and most manageable conditions in psychiatry. At Natural Brain Healing Psychiatry, we offer personalized, evidence-based care to help you find stability and reclaim control of your life.

What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by significant shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels — ranging from periods of elevated or irritable mood known as mania or hypomania, to periods of depression. These shifts are not just normal mood changes. They are intense, often unpredictable, and can significantly affect relationships, work, and daily functioning.

Bipolar disorder looks different in every person. Some experience dramatic highs and lows. Others experience more subtle cycles that go unrecognized for years.

Bipolar disorder is not a personality flaw. It is not moodiness or drama. It is a medical condition — and like any medical condition, it responds to the right treatment.

Is This You?

Common Signs of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder comes in three forms — and understanding the differences can be the first step toward finally getting the right diagnosis.

Bipolar I

Full manic episodes that are severe, disruptive, and last at least 7 days. Depressive episodes are common but not required for diagnosis. This is the form most people picture when they think of bipolar disorder.

Bipolar II

Hypomanic episodes — a less severe form of mania that can actually feel like heightened productivity, confidence, or energy. Because hypomania often feels good, many people with Bipolar II are misdiagnosed with depression and never receive the right treatment.

Cyclothymia

Chronic, milder mood fluctuations that persist for at least 2 years without meeting the full criteria for mania or depression. It often goes unrecognized entirely.

MANIA / HYPOMANIA

  • Feeling unusually elevated, expansive, or irritable
  • Decreased need for sleep without feeling tired
  • Racing thoughts or ideas that won’t slow down
  • Talking more than usual or feeling pressure to keep talking
  • Increased energy or activity levels
  • Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
  • Impulsive or reckless behavior — spending, sexual decisions, risky choices
  • Easily distracted or jumping between tasks
  • Taking on more projects or commitments than is realistic

DEPRESSION

  • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Low energy or constant fatigue
  • Changes in sleep — sleeping too much or too little
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm

If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, please call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

You Are Not Alone.

Bipolar disorder affects more than 7 million adults in the United States. It is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed conditions in psychiatry — many people live with bipolar disorder for years, often misdiagnosed with depression or anxiety, before receiving the right diagnosis and treatment.

You are not alone in this. And your experience is valid — whether your episodes are dramatic or subtle, frequent or rare. The hardest step is often the first one. We are here to make that step as easy as possible. No judgment. No pressure. Just a team that genuinely wants to help you find the stability you deserve.
